About HEAL

Welcome to HEAL website! Health Economics at Lancaster, led by Professor Bruce Hollingsworth, is a research study group based in the Faculty of Health and Medicine with strong collaborative links with the Department of Economics.

The primary objectives of HEAL are the development and application of quantitative research methods capable of informing health policy-making through empirical evidence and contributing to the academic and policy debate. The group brings together leading health economists, health services researchers, and a wide range of non-academic stakeholders to investigate the topical issues and challenges in health economics. The work undertaken by HEAL aims at having an impact on people's wellbeing and society as a whole.

  • At Autumn Academy, we are excited to meet our new and largest-ever cohort of blended-learning Health Economics and Policy students! A warm welcome to all of them!
  • We are proud to be part of a multi-million-pound grant over five years to support the delivery of a new national NIHR Research Support Service for England.
  • Dr Katharina Janke and her team have successfully secured ?777,022 NIHR funding (NIHR154797) for a project titled "Health impact, process and economic evaluation of selective licensing schemes for private rented housing in England" with approximately ?19,000 allocated to Lancaster University.
  • Professor Bruce Hollingsworth attended the EuHEA PhD Conference in Bologna with Chiara Costi giving a great talk about one of her PhD Chapters, which was a great success.
  • Professor Heather Brown attended and presented her paper at the IHEA Congress in Africa.
  • Dr Huasheng Xiang delivered a presentation at the Understanding Society Scientific Conference.

Seminar

The seminar series in Health Economics is an initiative at Lancaster University.

This series is a discussion forum for individuals interested in quantitative methods applied to Health Economics and related areas of research. It consists of presentations from both internal affiliates and visitors from the broader national and international research community.
